Why knives? Why not claws??

Post by General Hoohah »

I don't think knives make any sense for the zombies... claws would be much more realistic and cool, not to mention a whole lot more fun! This would be even better if there were three ways to attack; The forward single hand attack, the side to side swipes with both hands, and the more powerful double claw downward rake. The first is faster and has the most distance, the second could be used for knocking things in your way to the left and right, and the third could be used for destroying destructible objects and pushing things out of your way, in a forward direction.

Also, zombies should be able to do damage by throwing objects, using these attacks. I actually mean picking something up and lobbing it, but only smaller things like barrels, chairs, planting pots, small bricks, and anything small laying around. However, it should be able to be shot out of the zombie's hands, and stopped in mid air with enough fire power. (Not enough would just make it spin, and too high powered shots would just go through it and not stop it, like with the AWM)

Another thing I've always wanted to see is humans being able to pick up light weight things and use them as shields, against zombie attacks. Of course, after about five zombie hits, it should be knocked away from you. Or even worse, after five hits the zombie can take it and throw it at you. This would be useful for making barriers. Instead of just shooting stuff and wasting your ammo, especially on servers that force you to conserve it.

First of all you're over reacting. Second, why the minimalist attitude...? It's not like I'm asking for them to turn lead into gold. :x This is HL2, not 1. It would be wonderful to see the engine taken advantage of like other mods are doing.

You know... its really aggrivating when someone says, "its just a mod", and no he is not right. If someone said that about CS when it was just getting started, and they actually listened... It wouldn't be near as great as it is today. So unless your going to comment with something intelligent, then don't bother shooting down an idea with something lame like that. Isn't there someone around here with a brain? I was really hoping for a thought out reply. :(

I really hope this community isn't going to be a repeat of what I kept seeing over in the Sven Co-op Forum and several of the other mod forums, where everyone shoots down or stereo types every single idea that has some creativity and thought behind it, with a short reply that has no thought behind it, and flame people for suggesting anything that isn't lame like repeating rocket launchers or dual rifles...

This mod has a lot of potential to grow, and be much greater than it is. The reason, is that its FUN and addictive! If you guys came out of your shell and made this mod as great as it could be, you'd have a large fan base... not to mention it would be a great experience!

It's not that they don't want to, its that they can't. Server side mods cannot have complicated new combo moves like the ones you stated above, and it would be impossible to make a knife model for zombies and not humans.

Thank you for your answer. :) That made a lot of sense.

However, why are they settling for that? Why not use what they've learned from this project, then move on to making a mod of HL2? A mod that uses the basic ideas that this one uses, would be so much fun! It probably wouldn't be CTs and Ts, but something else I'm guessing... but still, it could have all the weapons... or even more! I know there are a few different zombie mods being made for HL2, but I don't remember seeing any that work like a game of tag, like this one does. By the way, that was a great idea!

Because a other zombie mod for hl2, wouldent be played, and why play a hl2 mod when you can just join css and play, with minimal downloading.

its not a viable concept making a new mod just for zombies and humans, and its been done soo many times its boring :(

I think I'd have to agree with icepick here. I was part of a WWII total conversion mod (they're still working on it these days for HL2 actually), and I can tell you, it's freakin' hard to find good help. A total conversion, which is what it sounds like you're talking about, General Hoohah, requires a lot of time and effort, even for the simplest mods. While zombiemod is a much simpler mod out there than most, it was probably intended to be that way.

I agree it'd be cool to see new features or abilities, but I'm sure it's just difficult to pull off if you don't have an actual production team to work it.

As for your comments about throwing items, don't you think that'd make zombies a little too powerful? They already have ridiculous health levels and are significantly faster than humans. Yes, I understand the reasoning behind throwing items...to prevent camping. Maybe if zombies were balanced a bit more, throwing wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Hey, what about an invisible knife? It would look like they're just attacking with their claws. :)

The knives aren't supposed to show - nor are the zombies' hands.

What you're describing, however, was in the early beta versions of the mod before c0ld took everything public.

You're right! I just realised I only see the knives on a server that I was repeatedly playing. Sorry for the confusion. LOL

I was just wondering, is it possible for the (zombie player view) to have claw skin? instead of knife? it be kinda cool since I think that would be forced serverside, and well could be included in next zombiemod update
