I have finally created my first zombie map!
It's pretty much complete and I don't think I'll be changing anything, but comments are greatly appreciated as I hope to get this zombie map as popular as the others.

NOTES: The FPS rate is quite low - around 50 or so for me - but this is because the map is large. It's also dark out and there's quite a lot of entities, for all of which I've used the proper compressors for.

SCREENSHOTS:
1) Quick general layout of what the map looks like at first.

2) CT Spawn...yeah...

3) CT Spawn, the weapons cache...both CT and T spawns have weapons caches.

4) T Spawn...yeah, it's so dark you need a flashlight. :P

6) Dark areas for hiding in...here's an example of one of the many there are.

7) General two rock walls for cover...this map could be deathmatch material as well.

8| A little hard to make out, but there's a sniper post...it's REALLY aswsome. :D

9) There's areas to hide and climb for cover instead of soda machines, etc...cleaner. 8)

10) Hidden underground tunnel area for going from both ends of the map...find it yourself. :P

11) There's a HUGE building for some real fun, it has strobe lights, so here's it off...

Ok, stayed 10min and voted out, why?

- Map eat fps, mean, fps are very low because of the bunch of trees

- Dumd camp spot, the tunel in the wood.. maybe with limited ammo it could work..

- Too dark, its not really a reason..

Vincent90, I have some responces to your comments...

- I know the FPS is low, I already said it would be. I'm done as much as I can do reduce lag and poor FPS as much as I can.
- The tunnel isn't for camping really, it's for getting around the map another way. I've also made this map for servers with limited ammo (most zombie servers don't use unlimited ammo anymore).
- Darkness is the entire point of the map. Without it, there's no real place to go besides the camping spots. The darkness is for an eerie and cool environment, more places to hide, and it also helps reduce the lag and increase FPS.

I think I've pretty much answered all of your questions, Vincent.
So far, I'm not sure I'll be altering anything unless the darkness becomes a REAL problem.

2. :lol: ...that's why I put it there, silly! Don't worry, if I made the map light it will be gone.

Grey, don't listen to the comments about the darkness. I'm with ya man!! ;) I keep my server playing with all dark maps: zombie_dark 1 in the cfg. Certain maps seem to override this for some stupid reason. But I agree with you, the whole point of this game, to me, is ambience. If I'm hackin' away at zombies, I want to feel scared. Having a zombie pop in front of your face in the dark and stab you gets your adrenaline pumping!

I haven't tried your map yet, maybe I'll try to get it on my server this weekend. If people like it, I'll keep it in the cycle. Best of luck!

Thanks! I'll continue to try and update it regularly.

IceBreaker,
That's REALLY strange...no one else seems to have a problem. Try deleting it and redownloading it. If that doesn't work, then tell me what it says in the console when it tries to run the map.

I think I have a solution to all this, read below. Thanks for the comments!


What I've decided to do is create TWO versions of this map. Both of these final versions will be released in time, but basically what it will eventually come down to is this: zm_forest_light and zm_forest_dark. This way if you wish to run the dark, original map than you can do so and if you need a light map, you can get it as well. The maps won't be the same as the lighter version will need more spots for humans and other things for zombies, but the dark won't be the same as it is now either because I have some bugs and some new things I've already thought of to add to it.

So, in the mean time anyway, the latest version is zm_forest_v2. You can choose to run this on your server if you would like, but always keep in mind that new versions will be released as soon as I make the final versions mentioned above.

This is a great first release of your map...i say good job...and you are a good sport for taking the constructive critisism as just that...keep listening for maybe two or three more iterations of improving the map and after that just call the shot as final.

I like it!

I will indeed wait for more suggestions before I make the light version of the map as I'll need all the help I can get when it comes to that final version. As for the dark version, like I said I'll just fix some more bugs and listen to everything thus far and add things as the map gets commented on more.

light version :(, the reason its pitch black is becuase your models are making shadows that cut 100% of the light, so alls u have to do is click disable shadows
