High choke on server

Post by Games »

On my server the choke is around 50 or even higher, what could cause this. ?

The server is tickrate 100 and 20slots, so does everybody has this with tickrate 100. ?

If people would be so kind to check it on theire server, just ype net_graph 3 on console (client console) to see the choke.

Well it's a rented server and they are saying that their server's are running on:
Dual 3,2 Ghz Xeon servers and dualcore dual Opteron 275

Here are the rate's i use:

// Set Rates
sv_maxrate 10000
sv_minrate 6000
sv_maxcmdrate 100
sv_mincmdrate 45
sv_maxupdaterate 100
sv_minupdaterate 45
fps_max 600

Well more people on my server said that the choke were high so it's probably server sides.

But my client settings are:

rate 20000
cl_cmdrate 100
cl_updaterate 100

I don't know if i can change the tickrate settings on my server.

btw is this something old or something quiet new? does it happen on a full server or empty (1 or 2 people).
also use these values as a starting point and work your way up if you can on the server

sv_maxrate 12000
sv_minrate 1000
sv_maxupdaterate 45
sv_minupdaterate 10

if nothing else works try and reduce the values on the client...

general rule : HL / HL 2 has the ability to limit how much information it requests, to save clogging up your connection. If it goes over this then you will get choke. So if the server's pipe gets clogged everybody gets choke, if your computer runs out of bandwidth, you alone will get choke.

*gah* only problem I have is LOADS of lag at beginnings of rounds if I have 20 or more people on my server. Something the spawnlag takes like 7 seconds ^^
